Charles Dwight Maurer

Charles Dwight Maurer, 86, Jamestown, ND died at MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND on Sunday, August 6, 2006.


Charles Dwight Maurer was born on the family farm near Arthur, ND on August 30, 1919, the son of Charles J. and Alice (Wilson) Maurer. He attended country school near the farm and graduated from Arthur High School in 1936. Dwight attended North Dakota State Agriculture College at Fargo for 2 years and then attended a Telegraphers school in Jamestown. He was then employed by the Burlington Northern Railroad as a conductor on a passenger train. Dwight married Florence Plinski at St. James Catholic Church in Jamestown on April 4, 1945. They recently celebrated their 61st wedding anniversary. They lived in Fargo until 1971 when they moved to Jamestown. He retired from the railroad in 1980. They have continued to reside in Jamestown.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Charles, La Jolla, CA and James (Judy) Port Charlotte, FL; 3 daughters, Jacqueline Wanzer, Orange, CA, Joan Connell, Wahpeton, ND and Mary Jane (David) Ingstad, Bismarck, ND; 13 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers. He was the last of his family.


Dwight was a member of The Basilica of St. James, Knights of Columbus Council 1883 of Jamestown, the Jamestown Eagles and Jamestown Elks.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 10, 2006 at The Basilica of St. James, Jamestown, ND.
Evening Prayers: 6:45 p.m. Wednesday Knights of Columbus Rosary followed by Prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Lisko Funeral Chapel.
Visitation: 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Lisko Funeral Chapel and 1 hour prior to services in the church on Thursday.
Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.
Memorials in lieu of flowers, may be directed to St. John's Academy, Jamestown, ND
