Charles Swanson

Charles Swanson, 75, of Jamestown, ND died Saturday, September 28, 2002 at his home in Jamestown.

Charles was born February 21, 1927 in Courtenay, North Dakota the son of August and Jennie (Olson) Swanson. He was raised on the family farm and received his education in Courtenay and Kensal, ND schools. Charles worked for area farmers until entering the US Army on October 24, 1945 at Ft. Snelling, MN. He served as a medic in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during WWII and was discharged on December 12, 1946 at Camp Stoneman, CA. Charles returned to the Courtenay area where he worked for area farmers. He married Lucille Burleson on September 6, 1949 in Jamestown, ND. Charles worked as a buttermaker in Jamestown for the Bridgeman-Russell Creamery, later named Foremost Creamery. When the creamery closed in 1965, he worked for the North Dakota State Hospital as an aid for 25 years. He was a member of the Cicil Tracy Post #760 V.F.W. - Jamestown, ND.

He enjoyed playing card, bowling, and pool.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Swanson of Jamestown, ND; one son, Robert (Linda) Swanson of Wayzata, MN; two grandchildren, Sasha Rae (Brian) Vandeven of St. Louis, MO and Robert Charles, Swanson, Jr. of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Rose Martin of Jamestown, Nd and Hazel Thu of Jamestown, ND; two half-brothers, Evertt Wagner of Jamestown, ND and Earl (Wanda) Wagner of Chicago, Il; two half-sisters, Pearl Kelton of Dallas, TX and Margaret Hockert of Jamestown, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mary Lou Gums; and one half-brother, Victor Swanson.

Funeral Service: 10:30AM Tuesday, October 1, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral chapel, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating.

Visitation: Monday, September 30, 2002 from 9:00AM to 9:00PM at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Prayer Service: 5:00PM Monday, September 30, 2002 at the Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
