Charles Mastel
Charles F. Mastel, 70, Edgeley, ND, died from heart failure Friday, December 17, 2010 at his home near Edgeley.
Charles Francis Mastel was born May 5, 1940 near Edgeley, ND, the son of Frank and Magdalena (Gefre) Mastel. He was raised on a farm near Edgeley, ND where he attended school. Charles married Glenna Wilson, also from Edgeley, in 1959 and they raised their three children in Beach, ND where Charles engaged in a career as a successful salesman and businessman in enterprises including a Dairy Queen, the OK Corral Bar, and a small ranch. He was later divorced, returned to the farm where he grew up in Edgeley and married Roni Nielson in 2003.
Charles was recognized for his efforts in sustainable farming practices and received a conservation achievement award from the LaMoure County Soil Conservation District. Charlie's cattle brought him great pride and enjoyment and he was continually improving his herd and land.
Charles is survived by his wife Roni; a step son David (Denise) Alphson; a son, Kevin (Jo) Mastel, 2 daughters: Karen (Karl) Launchbaugh, and Karla (Paul) Nistler; his children's mother, Glenna Mastel; 5 grandchildren: Eric, Justin, and Sadie Nistler, and Gabi and Cali Alphson; a great grandson, Liam Nistler; his mother, Magdalena and 4 brothers: Larry, Francis, Terry, Isadore and 4 sisters: Donna, Maggie, Dianne, and Monica. Charles was preceded in death by his father Frank.
