Cheryl Wegner, 58, Jamestown, ND, died Friday, February 12, 2010 at Jamestown Hospital, Jamestown, ND.

Cheryl Elizabeth Birk was born February 12, 1952 in Fargo, ND, the daughter of Ingvold and Katherine (McGowan) Birk. She was raised in Fargo, ND where she attended Catholic schools, graduating from Shanley High School in 1970. She attended the University of North Dakota from 1970 to 1971. Cheryl married Robert Blackmore in 1971. In 1977, they moved to Jamestown, ND where she began working for the Stutsman County Housing Authority. She has served as the Executive Director for the Housing Authority for the last 30 years. In 1985, she married Clifford Wegner. She attended Valley City State University and received her bachelor's degree in 1993.

Cheryl was a National Trustee of the Public Housing Authority Directors Association and was nationally recognized as an expert in the field of rural housing assistance. She was a past president of Zonta and served on many local committees and organizations. Cheryl was passionate about her work and the community in which she served.

Above all Cheryl was a wife, mother, grandma, sister, and friend. Survivors include her husband, Cliff; 3 children: Cristen Blackmore, Fargo, ND; Teresa (Randy) Eisenzimmer, Flagstaff, AZ; Thomas (Mindy) Blackmore Jamestown, ND; 2 stepdaughters: Marci (Matt) Opsahl, Jamestown, ND; Paula (Rob) Vaughn, Corvallis, OR; 6 grandchildren: Jade Eisenzimmer, Andrew Wegner, Shawn Opsahl, Brian Opsahl, Delaney Vaughn, Colton Blackmore; 4 siblings: Darlene Nelson, East Grand Forks, MN; Shirley (Robert) Johnson, West Fargo, ND; Mary (Richard) Curtis, Fargo, ND; David (Mary) Birk, Centennial, CO and a special family friend, Mae Marie Blackmore, Grand Forks, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Jerry Nelson.
