Christine Gehring, 96, of Jamestown, ND died Friday, August 2, 2002 at Hi-Acres Amnor Nursing Home in Jamestown.
Christine Gehring was born July 13, 1906 in Garrison, ND the daughter of Ludwick and Christine (Beglau) Gehring. She attended school in the Garrison area, graduating from high school in 1924. Christine attended Valley City State University, Valley City, ND graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Teaching degree in 1959. She also attended summer school at NDSU and Moorhead State University. Christine received a second degree in teaching the Educable Handicapped.
Christine taught school for 38 years, starting in Garrison, then Washburn, Kulm, Lehr, Devils Lake, Stanley, Dunseith, and later Jamestown, ND. She called Lincoln Elementary School in Jamestown ""her school"" because she taught there so many years. She never tired of being around children; they were the love of her life. After her retirement in 1972, she volunteered for many years helping foreign students learn English and volunteering at the local schools helping with penmanship.
She was a member of the AAUW, an organization that provided support and training for women wanting to further their education, and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir for many years and will be missed by its members.
She is survived by a sister, Ida Brost of Bismarck, ND; several nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Ben, Alex, and Luke; and three sister, Seloma, Theresa, and Caroline.
Funeral Service: 10:30AM Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Rev. David Eppelsheimer officiating.
Visitation: Monday, August 5, 2002 from 9:00AM to 9:00PM at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Burial: Garrison Cemetery, Garrison, ND.
