Christopher Fox Miller

December 1, 1914 — June 22, 2006

Christopher Fox Miller, Jr., 91, retired United Methodist Minister, died June 22, 2006 at the Hospice Care Center in Lexington, KY. Born December 1, 1914 in Mt. Pleasant, PA. He was the son of the late Christopher Fox and Laverna Mullen Miller. A graduate of Bob Jones University, the University of Pittsburgh and Westminster (Wesley) Seminary, he served pastorates in Pennsylvania, North Dakota and Florida. Rev. Miller was a member of the Dakotas Conference and from 1947 to 1981 served Methodist Churches in Hillsboro, Carrington, Jamestown, Minot; he also served as a District Superintendent.

He is survived by his children; Lewis (Marlyce) Miller, of Bayfield, WI; Paul (Susan) Miller, Stroudsburg, PA; and Janet (Curt) Ehrmantraut, Lexington, KY; a brother Bill (Marjorie) Miller, Truth or Consequences, NM; a sister Romayne (RJ) Patrick, Colorado Springs, CO; Eight grandchildren: Merle (Greg) Johnson, Dean (Karen) Miller, Scott (Christine) Miller, Christine (Mark) Herreid; Michael (Jenna) Miller, Jeff (Tracy) Miller, Jon (Mary Beth) Miller; and Laca (Kevin) Woodson; Nieces June Stacy-Clemmons, Betty Ann Stacey, Linda Francis, Kathryn Karr, Carolyn Richert, nephew David Lewis and 15 great grand children.

He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Lota Pauline Lewis Miller, and his second wife Betty Tryon; a brother Jack and sister Kathryn.

Chris took great delight in introducing his children to nature from the mountains of Montana to the Florida Coasts and had an abiding interest in ministry to rural congregations. He was profoundly affected by a trip to Peru in 1960, and later established an endowment fund through Heifer Project International to support projects there. He often said ?I came into the world with nothing and will leave with nothing,? and gave with joy to housing for the elderly, sustainable agriculture and preparation of students for ministry.

During 6 years residing in Lexington at the Lafayette at Country Place, he helped coordinate and lead an evening worship service, initiated and co-led the Living Faith Sunday School Class. The family is grateful for the community of residents and staff of the Lafayette and wishes to thank Hospice of the Bluegrass for their ministry.

A memorial Service will be held at Antioch Christian Church, 5762 Paris Pike, Lexington, KY at 3:00pm on Sunday, June 25, 2006 with visitation prior to the service at 2:00 pm.
