Clara K. Oberlander

Clara K. Oberlander, 89, of Jamestown, ND died Friday, January 17, 2003 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown, ND.

Clara K. Schlaht was born June 15, 1913 in Grim Township, near Hazen, North Dakota, the daughter of Martin and Louise (Rau) Schlaht. As a young girl she moved with her family to a farm south of Medina, ND. She attended rural schools in Stutsman County where she won the Stutsman county spelling bee in 1925. She helped on the family farm until she married Samuel Oberlander on October 29, 1933 in Medina, ND. They farmed with his parents for three years, after which they rented and owned several farms before retiring in 1976. They moved into Medina where she lived until June of 2001. Samual died on January 26, 1982. She entered Central Dakota Village on January. 27, 2002.

Clara loved gardening, growing flowers, sharing plants, canning, quilting, crocheting, crafts, cooking and playing cards. She loved her grandchildren but the great-grandchildren were even more special. They would love to visit her and help fill their candy bags from her special candy dish.

Clara was a member of the Evangelical English Lutheran Church, Medina, ND. She served on the Alter Guild and the Women's group. She also belonged to a birthday club.

She is survived by two daughters, Della Leapaldt of Jamestown, ND and Doris (Francis) Wilkie of Farmington, NM, nine grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, one sister, Mabel (Burnell) Hubert, Klamoth Falls, OR, three sisters-in- law, Rose Schlaht of Jamestown, Loraine Schlaht of Medina, ND, Stella Schlaht of Watertown, SD.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters, Martha, Lorraine, Sally, and an infant, Margaret; three brothers, Charles, Earl, and Walter; and a son-in-law (Alvin E. Leapaldt).

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Wednesday, January 22, 2003 at Evangelical English Lutheran Church, Medina, ND with Rev. Robert Pestal, officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Tuesday, January 21, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Home

Burial: Medina Cemetery, Medina, ND.
