Clarence Slaughter

Clarence Slaughter, 84, Tappen, North Dakota died Thursday, May 11, 2006 at his farm home near Tappen.

Clarence was born January 6, 1922 in Tappen the son of Ernest Clyde and Ida (Haadem) Slaughter. He grew up in the Tappen area and attended rural school in Tanner Township, south of Tappen. He was drafted into the US Army on November 16, 1944 and served his country during WW II in the European African Middle Eastern Theater. He was injured and received a medical discharge on January 18, 1946. Clarence returned to the Tappen area where he farmed and ranched with his brother, Curtis. He enjoyed his life on the farm. He was also an assessor for Tanner township for many years.

Clarence was a faithful church member and belonged to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tappen. He was also a member of the American Legion, Tappen.

Clarence enjoyed his great nieces and nephews and always had a pop for them.

Clarence is survived by three brothers; Curtis (Laverne) Slaughter, Tappen, Delane (Janis) Slaughter, Bismarck, ND and Harold (Marie) Slaughter, West Fargo, ND and three sisters; Alta (Bob) Baldwin, New Tripoli, PA, Areda (Raymond) Owens, Syracuse, NY and Ivy Knight, New Tripoli, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, June, a brother, Oren and a brother-in-law, Selsby Knight.

Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, May 15, 2006 at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Tappen with Rev. William Russow officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 8:00 PM, Sunday, May 14, 2006 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jametown, North Dakota and one hour before the service at the church.

Burial: Tappen Cemetery, Tappen, North Dakota.
