Clarence Woodward, 80, Jamestown, North Dakota died Sunday, March 13, 2011 at Eventide at Hi-Acres in Jamestown.
Clarence was born January 21, 1931, southwest of Tuttle, ND, in Kidder County, on his grandpa and grandma Schuler's farm, the son of Russell and Emelia (Schuler) Woodward. He was baptized and confirmed in Kidder County rural churches. He grew up and attended rural schools in Kidder County until his parents moved to Tuttle, where he graduated from Tuttle High School in 1949. Clarence was drafted in the US Army in October 1952 and received his training at Fort Sheridan in Illinois. He spent a year overseas on the Marshall Islands on Enewetak, where they tested bombs. He was honorably discharged on October 29, 1954 and returned to North Dakota. On March 6, 1955 Clarence married Anna Martin at Lake Williams, ND. He worked for the ND Highway Dept. out of Bismarck for several years, after moving to different parts of North Dakota where he helped build Interstate 94. They settled in Jamestown where he started work at Midway Chevrolet, later Walt Sanders Chevrolet, and worked for them 35 years, from where he retired.
Clarence was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Jamestown.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 56 years, Anna, Jamestown; two children, Patricia (Harley) Eidsness, Brocket, ND and Loren (Penny) Woodward, Bismarck, ND; four grandchilden, Ben and April Woodward and Nicole and Kelsey Eidsness; four great-grandchildren; three step-great grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Greer and one brother, Orville (Amy) Woodward, both of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Allen in infancy in 1956 and Elden in February 2010; and his parents.
