Clayton E. Humes, 81, Jamestown, North Dakota died Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, ND.
Clayton was born May 17, 1926 in Alveston, Illinois, the son of Harold and Elna (Backer) Humes. Clayton's family moved to North Dakota when he was a young boy and Clayton attended school at Courtenay, ND. He served in the US Navy during World War II. On January 18, 1947 Clayton married Lavon Heiden in Jamestown. He worked as a bus driver for the ND Farmers Union. He then worked at the Jamestown Park & Rec Department, from where he retired after 37 years.
Clayton's passion was horses and he won the title of State Champion Cutting Horse. He helped organize the first ND Quarter Horse Association of which he was a member at the state and the national level.
Clayton is survived by his wife, Lavon, of Jamestown; two grandchilden, Todd (Denise) Humes, Jamestown and Corrine Harbaugh, Omaha, NE; four great-grandchildren, Courtney, Madeline, Alex and Aspen; one brother, Alvin (Jean) Humes, Jamestown and two sisters, Donna (Lee) Fike, Fessenden, ND and Atha Lee (Allyn) Marifjeren, Grand Forks, ND.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Clayton J. ""Skip"" Humes.
Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 14, 2007 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown with Rev. Kenrad Pederson officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Friday, July 13, 2007 at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND.
Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
