Daboldt Ketterling, Jr.

August 30, 1926 — May 15, 2015

Daboldt Ketterling, Jr., 88, passed away at his home in Jamestown, ND on Friday, May 15th, 2015 surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Hospice.
Daboldt was born on August 30th, 1926 to Daboldt and Elizabeth (Gall) Ketterling, Sr. on the family farm two miles south of Fredonia, ND. He grew up and received his education in LaMoure, ND. In February of 1945, Daboldt was drafted into the US Military serving in the Infantry, Air Force and Army until 1947. His service included stations in Hawaii, Manila and Japan. He received the Victory Medal and Army Occupation Awards during his military service.
Daboldt married Velda Schlecht on February 19th, 1949 in Kulm, ND. The couple started their life together in LaMoure then moved to Jamestown to operate a Bible Bookstore in 1962. Daboldt then went on to work for Midwest Motors and the Ford Garage. Upon retirement, he owned and operated K & K Trucking as well as drove bus for many groups around ND. Many of Daboldt's favorite stories were about his bus driving adventures.
Daboldt was a faithful and devoted servant of the First Assembly of God Church in Jamestown. It was at this church where he received his honorary high school diploma. This was due to 2001 legislation that allowed those who served in the military to receive an honorary diploma. Daboldt's long-time pastor Darrell Losing secretly applied for the diplomas of several parishioners and bestowed this honor upon Daboldt and others at a special service on May 29, 2001. Daboldt served as a Sunday School teacher, as a member of the church council and as a deacon. He took extra pride in caring for the church's pink busses which were used to pick up the Sunday School children.
One of Daboldt's greatest attributes was his passion for people. This was evident anytime he encountered someone in need. Daboldt had a special place in his heart for anyone experiencing trying times in their lives. He truly was a man of God who lived daily by the Golden Rule. Daboldt thoroughly cherished his family and friends. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and never tired of their visits. While on Hospice, Daboldt developed a very strong bond with his nurses and was ever-grateful for the care they provided him. Daboldt was a very skilled carpenter who enjoyed building items in his shop. He received the most satisfaction from making projects for others.
Daboldt is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Velda (Jamestown, ND); 3 children- Wayne (Liz) Ketterling (Stevensville, MT), Ramona (Kevin) Hoffmeyer (Mayville, ND), Bev (Gordon) Tomlin (Jamestown, ND); 9 grandchildren -Kacie (Miguel) DeJesus (Denver, CO), Krystal Linn (Centennial, CO), Jeffery Michael (Angie) Granrud (Howard Lake, MN), Michelle (Nate) Lowry (Meridian, ID), Nicole (Rob) Nylen (Moorhead, MN), William "Billy" (Breanne) Hoffmeyer (Huxley, IA), Amy Hoffmeyer (Devils Lake, ND), Mandi (Ryan) Domier (Portland, ND), Heather (Jason) Tomlin-Rohr (Jamestown, ND), Heidi (Josh) Perleberg (Jamestown, ND); 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers - Alvin Ketterling and Palmer Ketterling; 3 sisters - Ella Beglau, Deloris Anderson, and Marceal Nannenga.
