Darlene Marie (Kouba) Barton, 62, passed away August 27, 2019 at Sanford Medical Hospital, Fargo ND due to injuries sustained in an August 24 motorcycle/deer accident just north of Jamestown, ND on Hwy 20.
On July 14, 1957, Darlene was born in Grafton, ND to Leonard and Violet (Kowalski) Kouba. The family moved to Grand Forks, ND where, in May 1975, she graduated from Red River High School. On June 14, 1975, Darlene married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Barton, and they moved to Jamestown, ND where Dennis worked with his dad, Ralph Barton, at Barton School Bus Sales. Upon Ralph’s retirement in 1986, Dennis took over the business and Darlene became his Business Manager, where the two worked side-by-side until her passing.
Darlene wholeheartedly loved her family; her commitment, strength, and support for them was unbreakable. What began as a seventh-grade crush, turned in to one amazing 44+ year adventure. From becoming a wife loving her husband; to a mom kissing boo boos and giving hugs; to building her lil’ girl’s Barbie dream house and making baseball/football lines in the yard for her boys; to sharing laughs while spending hours making hockey pins; to early morning practices and traveling countless miles for sporting events making special friends along the way; from graduations to wedding cake details; Florida vacations to Sioux hockey trips; and grandma time building with Legos, Toro lawn cart riding, painting nails with her only granddaughter, and cheering on her three grandsons in their many activities; to taking a long awaited captivating Alaskan cruise with Dennis, her determination to always be present and give all is truly inspiring.
With an infectious smile, contagious laugh, and social personality, Darlene enjoyed being part of a purpose and inspired others to get involved as well. She thrived behind the scenes and behind the camera. From creating Super Beefy Nachos for the Pepsi wagon to help Jamestown hockey, or coordinating Co. 4 (Dennis’ company) Fireman’s Ladies nights for the Jamestown Fire Department, to the many Crusader motorcycle runs and parades to help support local causes, whatever it was, and whomever it was for, she always made sure it was the most detailed, creatively thought out, beautifully decorated, fun experience.
Venturing out on the open road with the sun on their faces, for many years, Darlene and Dennis were active with the Jamestown Crusaders spending most summer weekends traveling the North Dakota countryside on motorcycle enjoying time with one another and with so many wonderful friends made throughout the years. With a spicy attitude yet kind and empathetic, Darlene was a very well respected by the various tri-state Motorcycle club members they traveled alongside.
Throughout the years, Darlene adored her many pets and took immense pride in her and Dennis’ well-manicured yard and all the beautiful flowers and décor she spent so many hours tending to.
Darlene’s life will forever be cherished in the lives of her spouse, Dennis (Jamestown, ND); her children, Brooke (Curtis) Brown (Fargo, ND), Dustin (Amy) Barton (Fargo, ND), and Lance (Theresa) Barton (Mapleton, ND); her grandchildren, Oakley and Easton Brown, and Corbin and Tenley Barton; siblings, Linda (Dan) Eilers (Boise, ID); Larry (Terry) Kouba (East Grand Forks, MN); Sharon (Dan) Walker (Grand Forks, ND), Dwight (Cindi) Kouba (Grand Forks, ND); and Reed (Randi) Kouba (Grand Forks, ND), nieces and nephews; Chad and Brandi; Jamie, Lisa, and Jared; Nicole and Nick; Jason, Jessica, and Jeremy; and Karlee, cousins, aunts, uncles, and so many friends.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Violet, and father-in-law, Ralph.
Her final selfless act was to donate her corneas giving two recipients the beautiful gift of sight.
A Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00 p.m, Saturday, October 19, 2019 at the Temple Baptist Church, 1200 12th Ave NE, Jamestown, ND.
Although we can no longer turn to her and all our lives are changed forever, she will always be remembered and loved in our hearts and memories. Her legacy will live on within those she touched.
