Darlene Greenlund

Darlene “Dar” Ann (Readel) Greenlund 80, of Jamestown, ND, passed away on February 23, 2023, under the care of her family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Darlene was born September 2, 1942, in Jamestown, ND, to Dominic and Florence (Albrecht) Readel.  She grew up in Fried, ND with her parents and brother Jerry.  She was baptized in the Catholic faith.  Attended country school for several years in Fried before moving to Jamestown.  She continued her education in Jamestown, graduating in 1960.

Darlene was united in marriage to Ronald Greenlund on September 30, 1960, at St. James Basilica in Jamestown.  Together they raised three sons: Tim, Terry, and Troy.  They enjoyed many dates roller skating and dancing at the Pavilion at Spiritwood Lake.  They moved several times between South Dakota and California before settling in Jamestown.

Darlene dedicated her work life to sales.  She worked at the Fair Store, Herbst Department Store, and 33 years at Conlin’s Furniture.  She received numerous awards including “Top Sales”.

Darlene’s faith and her family were the most important things in her life.  She enjoyed Sunday dinner with family and especially enjoyed Christmas and having family home for the holidays.  She also enjoyed attending Antique Car shows with Ron, trips to Deadwood, SD, and collecting Blue Willow dishes, Santa’s, and dolls.

She was a member of St. James Basilica church where she also taught Sunday School.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ron; two sons, Terry (Rita) of Horace, ND, Troy of Pingree, ND; five grandchildren, Sydney (Alex) Reif, Ashley (Sam) Johnson, Paige Greenlund, Jeff Greenlund, Grant (Courtney) Greenlund; three great-grandchildren, Levi & Lilly Greenlund, Aiden Reif; her niece, nephews, and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son, Tim and daughter-in-law, Angie, brother, Jerry and her parents.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Eventide in Fargo and Hospice of the Red River Valley for their compassionate, dedicated care.

Visitation for Darlene will be 4:00 PM to 7 PM, Thursday, March 2nd, 2023, at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 AM, Friday, March 3rd, 2023, at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery later in the spring.
