Darlene Hogan

Darlene Mae McCommon Hogan, 75, passed away peacefully at her home in Jamestown, ND, Easter morning, April 8, 2012.

Dar was born in Jamestown, October 2, 1936, the daughter of Guy C. and Martha (Schultz) McCommon. She graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954 and married Michael ?Mick? McKay Hogan July 18, 1956. They raised a family of six children together. Throughout that time, Dar worked for Easter Seals, then as secretary for Jamestown Public Schools and later at Jamestown State Hospital. She also performed several duties for Jamestown Parks and Recreation and worked many years at North Dakota State Amateur Baseball tournaments.

Dar was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who especially enjoyed supporting her children?s and grandchildren?s activities by attending their numerous sporting events (her favorite was baseball), regardless of how ill she became in her later years. Dar had been an athlete herself, participating in summer softball and basketball leagues when she was younger. She also enjoyed bowling, and belonged to a league in Jamestown for many years.

Being generous, Dar always made time for her children and grandchildren, who were her joy; her spirits lifted whenever she saw them. Besides always being available to her own children, she was always willing to help care for her grandchildren when needed. In her spare time, Dar loved to crochet and made many blankets and other items for her grandchildren. She always had a project in the works for some family member.

Dar was very creative and loved making her home charming and welcoming to any visitor. She particularly enjoyed entertaining during the holidays, treasuring the company of family and friends. She always made sure her home was decorated top to bottom for Christmas (her favorite time of year), with the hundreds of decorations she had collected. She also always made sure there were plenty of homemade holiday goodies and candies available.

Wife, mother, grandmother ? Dar will be missed.

Dar is survived by her husband, Mick, Jamestown; three sons, Doug Hogan and Wayne Hogan, both of Jamestown, and Brian (Renee) Hogan, Lincoln, ND; three daughters, Teresa Hogan and Linda Hogan, both of Fargo, ND, and Janis Hogan (Maury Johnson), Jamestown; nine grandchildren and one great-grandson, Ross, Shaun and Ian Hogan, Kara Nygaard, Kylie Hoff, Alicia Stahle and her son, Ty Knudson, McKay, Kori, and Hailey Hogan who will all serve as pallbearers; and one sister, Florence Betsch, Jamestown.

She was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers and six sisters.
