Darrell Wiest

October 23, 1956 — October 30, 2006

Darrell Wiest, 50, Jamestown, North Dakota, entered eternal glory on October 30, 2006 at MedCenter One Hospital in Bismarck, ND.

Darrell Dean Wiest was born on October 23, 1956 in Jamestown, the son of LeRoy and Laurie (Baker) Wiest. He was baptized on November 18, 1956 and confirmed in 1970. Darrell received his education in Jamestown at Our Savior's Lutheran School and Jamestown High School, graduating in 1974. On August 22, 1980, he was joined in marriage to Marlene Seckerson in Jamestown at Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church. He began working for Everson's Upholstery, which led him to start his own business, ""Darrell's Custom Upholstery"", which he operated in Jamestown until 1997. He started delivering papers for the Fargo Forum in 1998 and for the past five years, he was employed by The Jamestown Sun.

Throughout his many struggles, Darrell always conquered his trails with strong faith in Jesus Christ. Darrell experienced the means of grace through hearing God's Word in church and receiving the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper. He was currently an active member of Our Savior's Evangelical Lutheran Church and thoroughly enjoyed singing in the church choir. He was confident that when he came to the end of his life, he would be joining Jesus in heaven for eternity.

One of Darrell's greatest passions in life was singing. He was a die-hard Elvis Presley fan and jumped at any opportunity he had to ""sing Elvis"". For five years, he has been a member of the Jamestown Choralaires, immensely enjoying every practice session and concert. His love for singing led him to be a part of many family and friend's special occasions. Cooking was another great talent of Darrell's. Many loved ones and friends reaped the benefits of his wonderful home-cooked meals. Their family's cockapoo dogs, Tela and Kobe, certainly brought joy to his life. They were his little four-legged companions. Riding motorcycle was also a favorite pastime of Darrell's; he enjoyed watching football and was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. For many years, Darrell received great enjoyment from playing Men's Slow Pitch Softball with his brothers.

Above all, Darrell's family was central in his life. Watching his boys play hockey as they were growing up was certainly a highlight for him. He gave of his time for many years as Parent Manager of their hockey teams and enjoyed every minute of it. No matter what, he was always there to watch them play their games. Darrell was anxious to become a Grandpa for the first time in February. He had many plans for himself and his granddaughter.

Darrell's caring heart and contagious smile will be missed but always remembered by his loving family: his wife, Marlene, Jamestown; two sons, Darrick and his wife, Alida of Bismarck and Shannon of Jamestown; his mother, Laurie (Jim) Hamm of Jamestown; his father, LeRoy Wiest (special friend, Marlene Morehouse) of Jamestown; his sister, Leanne (Gary) Schlagel of Valley City, ND; two brothers, James (Roxanne) Wiest and Curtis (Jo Marie) Wiest, both of Jamestown; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Irma Baker and Ed and Amelia Wiest and his great-niece, Madison Hoyt.
