David Donegan, 68, of Jamestown, ND, passed away Thursday afternoon, December 15, 2016 at Ave Maria Village.
David B. Donegan was born June 4, 1948 in Jamestown. He grew up in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1966. Dave attended the N.D. State College of Science in Wahpeton, and graduated from Valley City State College in 1970 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He was drafted into the US Army shortly thereafter and served with the military police in Vietnam and Thailand from September 17, 1970 until March 24, 1972. From 1972 to 1974, Dave was a brakeman for Burlington Northern Railroad, and from 1974 to 1976 he drove truck for White Drug Enterprises of Jamestown. Dave joined the Jamestown Police Department in May 1976 and was promoted to corporal in December 1987 and then to police chief in 1994. He retired after 17 years and continued to reside in Jamestown.
Dave is survived by Jean Hagel; Todd and Amy Donegan and their children, Quinn & Saoirse; Matthew and Becca Hagel and their son, Jackson; Chelsey and Andy Schatz and their son, Leo; and siblings, Viki Zimmerman, Mary Kay Broehl, Mary Geatz, Kass Mihelich, Larry Buck, Patty Schmidt, and Carmel Rueckert.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy; grandparents, James & Marie Donegan; and aunts and uncles.
Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, with Monsignor Jeffrey Wald officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2016 at Williams Funeral Home, Jamestown.
Vigil: 7:00 p.m., Monday, December 19, 2016 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.
Interment : Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.
