David A. Hanson

David A. Hanson, 81, Jamestown, ND passed away Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Ave Maria Village Nursing Home, Jamestown, ND where he has resided since March 2010, after having a massive stroke.
David Hanson was born July 27, 1934, in Aberdeen, SD to Orville Henry and Laura Gladys (Stains) Hanson. In 1948, his family moved to Redfield, SD and he graduated from Redfield High School in 1952. In January 1953, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was stationed in CA, IL, Misawa Japan, Iwo Jima, Great Falls, MT and finally Sacramento, CA.
David met and married Elaine Belle Rhoades of Sacramento, CA on February 3, 1957, after being discharged from the USAF. They moved back to Redfield, SD and then to Aberdeen, SD in 1958, where he worked at SDARNG, Aberdeen Fire Dept., and then with the US Post Office in 1961. David was a clerk in Aberdeen and then moved back to Redfield in 1972, where he was Asst. Postmaster then promoted to Postmaster in 1974. He served as State President of both SD and ND Chapters of the National Association of Postmasters of the U.S. In October 1984, he was promoted to Postmaster in Jamestown, ND.
David was active in Mason's holding many offices, El Zagel Shrine where he was a clown, also active in the Order of Eastern Star. In 1994, he was Centennial Worth Grand Patron for the ND Chapter. He was also active in the Jamestown Salvation Army Advisory Board (Lifetime member), various committees for the First United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Elaine; children, Paul, DeSmet, SD, Steven, Aberdeen, SD, Debra, Aberdeen, SD, John (Jackie), Pierre, SD; 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; one brother, Neil (Mary) Hanson, Austin, MN; several nieces, nephews and many great friends he met on his journey through life. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Mark, who died while serving in the Panama Canal with the USAF.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Salvation Army, Ave Marie Village Good Shepherd Chapel or Great Plains Assistance Dogs Foundation.

Memorial Service: 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 25 at Good Shepherd Chapel, Ave Maria Village Nursing Home, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Elmo Herman, officiating.
No Visitation:
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen, SD at a later date.
