David Ernest Young, 54 of Jamestown, North Dakota, died Saturday, May 10, 2003 at Innovis Health Center, Fargo, North Dakota. David was born January 24, 1949 at Trinity Hospital in Jamestown, the son of Ernest and Mary Faith (Olson) Young. He was baptized at the Basilica of St. James where he later served as an altar boy. He attended St. John's Academy and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1967. While in high school he was a lifeguard and later manager of the Jamestown Swimming Pool. He lettered in football and was active in Playmakers. He served as a host to Shigeru Endo, an AFS student from Japan and the current Deputy General Minister of Foreign Affairs Advisor to the Premier of Japan. David was a member of the Knights of Columbus Troop 145 and was an Eagle Scout. He attended UND and sang with the University Bards for four years. He recently attended the Bard's 50th anniversary. David served as the president of the Fort Seward Wagon Train for 2 years. He was an avid fisherman and worked as a fishing guide.
David was a member of the Sertoma Service Club and served as the chapter secretary. He was also a dedicated member of the Jamestown Choralaires and he proudly held several offices, including president in 1999. David was also an active member in Beginning Experience.
David's career life began with his own H & R Block Agency in Wahpeton, North Dakota. He then went to work for Juhl-Larson Wholesale Framing for 25 years, where he won their top salesman award and numerous other sales honors during his tenure.
David married Doreen Maas of Hebron, North Dakota on July 5, 1975. They have one daughter, Katharine Young, 18, who will graduate from Jamestown High School in May.
He is survived by his daughter, Katie, mother, Mary F. Young, two sisters, Cathy Lutz and Rebecca Sletten and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Young.
In David's memory, a memorial music scholarship has been established at Jamestown College. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. They may be sent to 6082 College Lane, Jamestown, ND 58405.

Prayer Vigil: 7:30 PM, Friday, May 16, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.
Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Friday, May 16, 2003, Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
