Delores Rasmussen Carlson

DeLores Helen Mildred (Rasmussen) Carlson, 87, Jamestown, N.D., formerly of Montpelier,

N.D., died Wednesday, August 19, 2014, at Ave Maria Village Care Center, Jamestown.

Funeral services for Mrs Carlson will be Monday, August 25, 2014 at 2:00 pm at the Ave Maria

Village Chapel, Jamestown, N.D. under the direction of Eddy Funeral Home. Burial will be in the

Montpelier Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, August 24, 2014 from 3-7:00 pm at

Eddy Funeral Home.

DeLores Mickelson was born April 28, 1927, on the family farm east of Jud, N.D., the daughter

of Morris and Hilda (Lee) Mickelson, of Norwegian descent. She graduated from Jud high

school in 1945.

DeLores married Henry Rasmussen on September 9, 1945 in the Montpelier Lutheran Church.

They farmed in the Montpelier area for several years then moved briefly to Elbow Lake, MN and

then moved to Winfield Township (near Jamestown). In 1959 they bought and operated a farm

southeast of Montpelier until 1968. They then moved to Montpelier and lived until Henry passed

away in 1993.

She married Ivan Carlson of Winfield Township in 1996. The couple lived in Montpelier until

Ivan's illness and death in 2004, after which she resided at James House until moving to Ave

Maria in 2012.

DeLores worked nearly 50 years for several employers in Jamestown and the surrounding area.

Some of those included the N.D. State Hospital, Walsh's Modern Market, Sears Roebuck,

Montgomery Ward, Bethel Bible Book Store, Thompson Motor Homes, The Pantry Restaurant,

and Walmart. For a while, she and Henry operated a restaurant in Montpelier and the Jud

grocery store. She enjoyed working outside the home and loved meeting and helping people.

She was a long time member of Montpelier Lutheran Church where she was in the choir and

served as Sunday school teacher and superintendent for several years. She was active in

leading 4-H and Cub Scouts when her children were young. She also served as Montpelier's

city auditor for some time. She loved music and loved to play the guitar and sing. She and her

friend Pearl Silzly, pianist, entertained frequently and became known as the Sunshine Girls.

DeLores is survived by a daughter Deborah Heery, Spiritwood, N.D., son Dean (Nancy)

Rasmussen, Juneau Alaska; one grandson, Aaron Heery and one great grandson, Reece

Heery, many nieces and nephews and cousins, and the family of Ivan Carlson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Henry Rasmussen and Ivan Carlson,

granddaughter Sarah Stevens, four brothers (James, Douglas, Arnold, and John Mickelson),

and four sisters (infant Hazel, Gladys Headland, Hazel Cavasher, and Bernice Spotts), and

son-in-law Francis Heery.
