Dennis J. Tanata died Saturday, February 19, 2011 at his brother's, William Tanata, home under hospice care in Jamestown.

Dennis J. Tanata was born September 8, 1943 at Courtenay, ND, the son of John F. and Theresa (Degen) Tanata. In 1946, the family moved to Jamestown and Dennis graduated from St. John's Academy in 1961. After high school, Dennis attended St. Mary's College in Winona, MN. Dennis joined the Navy and served four years aboard a destroyer as a fire control technician and was a Viet Nam veteran. In 1968, Dennis moved to Rockford, IL where he lived for 27 years. In 1970, he married Loretta White and they had three daughters. Dennis was employed as various machine tool companies, working as production control supervisor and manufacturing engineer. In 1979, he married Wilma Lonidier. In 1994, Dennis moved to a farmstead east of Edmunds, ND and worked as a farm hand for the Posey Farm. He was a member of V.F.W. Post 9759 in Illinois.

Dennis enjoyed woodworking, fishing, attending auction sales, and adding to his various collections.

Dennis is survived by his wife; three daughters, Diane Parnell and Theresa Boucher, Henderson, NV and Denise (Gary) Ashby, Las Vegas, NV; five grandchildren; three sisters, Elaine (Dick) Gillingham, Pidgeon, MI, Norma (Charles) Grant, Nashwauk, MN, and Maryann (Donald) Siebert, Jamestown; and one brother, William Tanata, Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral Service: 10:30am, Thursday, February 24, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel.

Burial: St. Mary's Cemetery, Courtenay, ND, in the spring.
