Dick D. Keyes, 74, Jamestown, North Dakota died Friday, July 3, 2009 at his home.

Dick Duane Keyes was born April 26, 1935 to Thomas and Iona (Oliver) Keyes in Jamestown, ND. He was raised in Jamestown and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1953. He joined the National Guard in 1953, in which time he helped in Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm. On June 27, 1957 he married Joan Duven in Marion, ND. They made their home and raised a family in Jamestown. He served with the 141st Engineer Combat Battalion for 40 years. After his retirement in 1994 he and his wife ran the Lakeside Marina and Campground for five seasons. He served on his Local Rural Fire Department as 1st Captain for 18 years. He served on the City Council for 16 years. Dick served on the Military Affairs Committee, he was the Chairman of Property and Sanitation committee, and of the Licenses and Zoning committee. He also served on the City/County Law Enforcement Center Building Committee.

Dick was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the Elks, Eagles, Dakota Anglers, AMVETS and NRA. He greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping with his family and friends. There were so many good times spent at the campgrounds. He also enjoyed woodworking and he made many items for his family and friends. He loved to be outdoors gardening and taking care of his lakehome at Lake Ashtibula. He was a true patriot and was very proud to have served his country. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Dick is survived by his wife, Joan, Jamestown; two sons, Tim (Kimberly) Keyes, Alfred, ND and Mike Keyes, Ypsilanti, ND; one daughter, Tracey (Jim) Wentland, Jamestown; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

Funeral Service: 10:30 AM, Friday, July 10, 2009 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown, with Pastor Kenrad Pederson officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Eddy Funeral Home.

Burial: 2:00 PM, Friday, July 10, 2009 at North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
