Dolly was born on April 1, 1922 on the family farm to Herman and Edith (Stibbe) Brandenburg. She attended country school and moved into town to attend Edgeley High School where she graduated from in 1939. It was during many of the town dances in Diesem, ND that she met her husband, Theodore "Ted" Taszarek. They were married on the Brandenburg family farm on October 8, 1940.
Dolly and Ted lived in Edgeley for a few years until Ted left to serve in the US Navy during WWII. As Ted was stationed in Hawaii, Dolly moved to California to live with her sister, Pearl so that she could be closer to him. She worked at the famous Edy's in Oakland, CA. This was the only time that she lived away from Edgeley, as they moved home to start farming shortly after Ted's discharge from the Navy. They built a farm just a short distance from Ted's family outside of Edgeley. Dolly's full time job was working beside Ted on their farm. In 1959, they had a daughter, Roxane.
Dolly and Ted became the operators of the Edgeley Livestock Sales Barn Café in 1972. While Dolly had grown up cooking and baking for her family, she started to become the town baker around this time. She was well known for her meringue pies, tomato dumpling soup that she made every Monday, and her cakes. Often you'd find her driving slowly across town with someone's wedding cake in her trunk trying to get it unharmed to the armory so she could set it up. Dolly continued to cook and bake for the Sales Barn Café for many years after she and her husband sold the business.
Dolly was a member of the Progressive Club of Edgeley for fifty years. She loved to garden, sew, visit with people, play cards, and watch her soap operas. She had a great sense of humor, loved to entertain, and enjoyed many wonderful relationships with her family and friends. For many years, you could always find her "out with the girls" for supper on Saturday night. Dolly was a huge help to her daughter as she started to raise her own family and had many enjoyable times with her grandchildren. Dolly was a member of Zion Lutheran Church all of her life, being both baptized and confirmed in the church. Her relationship with her church and her belief in Christ Jesus was a support to her through her whole life.
Dolly will be missed by her surviving daughter and son-in-law, Roxane and Bruce Romanick, Bismarck; her two grandchildren, Nick and Elizabeth (Bismarck); her brother, Wally (Bernie) Brandenburg, Edgeley; her sister-in-law's, Lee Brandenburg, Auburn, CA and Rella Brandenburg, College Place, WA.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Ted Taszarek; her parents, Herman and Edith Brandenburg; her brothers, Bill Brandenburg, Emil Brandenburg, Len Brandenburg, and Art "Swede" Brandenburg and one sister, Pearl Flegel.
