Donald Gasow, 79, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Eventide at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home, Jamestown. Donald Gerhard John Gasow was born August 6, 1934 to John and Laura (Mathwich) Gasow in Harvey, North Dakota. He was raised in Harvey and graduated from high school where he had been active in track, football and basketball. He helped take his school basketball team to State. Donald was a lifeguard at the Harvey Dam. He helped check scuba gear for the fire department for water rescue. He could have gone to college on a scholarship but chose to join the Navy instead. He was in the Navy for six years and got to travel the world. Donald married June Walch on October 13, 1957. After the Navy they lived in Mindin, Nebraska where he worked many different jobs. In 1964, they moved to Jamestown, ND where he worked as a delivery man for Tempo and drove truck for McDonald Trucking out of Eldridge. In 1969, he got his job with the railroad out of Mandan, ND. He worked with the railroad until he had his first stroke in 1999 at which time he went of disability. Donald moved back to Jametown shortly after that. He enjoyed hunting, teaching people about reloading shells, fishing, camping and woodworking. He loved spending time with his family doing the things he loved. In his later years he enjoyed watching movies, mostly war and action movies. Donald is survived by, his daughters, Debra (Steve) Pecka, Jamestown, ND and Dovi (Tom) Lee, Chaska, MN; one granddaughter, Jessica Pecka (Joe Schuldeiz Nitschke), Bismarck, ND; niece, Dona Oliver, Joiet, MT. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Margarite and Edmere.
Graveside Service: 3:30 PM, Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Sunnyside Cemetery, Harvey, North Dakota with Pastor Justin Schnakenberg, officiating.
