Donald W. McCommon Sr., 78, Jamestown, ND died on Friday, July31, 2009 at his home in Jamestown.

Donald Wayne McCommon Sr. was born October 2, 1930 in Jamestown, ND the son of Guy C. and Martha (Schultz) McCommon. He grew up and attended school at Jamestown. Don married Patricia Donegan at St. James Basilica in Jamestown on January 17, 1951. Don worked for the Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads from 1947 until he retired in December 1993.

Don was a member of St. James Basilica, Jamestown Knights of Columbus Council 1883, Jamestown Eagles and Elks and was a member of the Transportation Communications Union for 50 years, serving 1 year as president of the local union. He enjoyed fast pitch softball, was a very active golfer and was a member of the Hillcrest Men's Golf Association. He also enjoyed upland bird hunting.

Survivors include his wife; 2 daughters, Cel (Myron) Schlafman, Jamestown, ND and Diane (Mike) Opdahl, Larimore, ND; 2 sons, Guy (Linda), Las Cruces, NM and Donald W. Jr. (Betty), Bismarck, ND; 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren and 2 sisters, Florence Betsch and Darlene (Mick) Hogan, both Jamestown.

He was preceded in death by 1 infant son, his parents, 4 brothers and 6 sisters.

Funeral Service: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown, ND.

Knights of Columbus Rosary - 7:15 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND

Prayer Service: 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND.

Visitation: 9:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, August 3, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel and 1 hour prior to services in the church on Tuesday.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.
