Donald Dale Oberlander, 78, Cleveland, North Dakota, died Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at his home.
Donald was born June 1, 1932 in Medina, ND, the son of Emil and Emma (Dockter) Oberlander. He grew up in the Streeter area and attended Streeter schools. Donald joined the Merchant Marines in 1952 and was stationed in San Diego, California. The family moved to South Dakota and Donald entered the US Navy and was discharged in 1961 for medical reasons. Upon his return to North Dakota he worked for the Stutsman County Road Department for 29 years, from where he retired.
Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading and drawing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association for over 20 years.
Donald is survived by one brother, Gary (Sue) Oberlander, Mandan, ND; one sister, Bernice Schaffer, Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Marvin.
