Donald C. Schlecht

Donald Schlecht, 84, of Wimbledon, ND, died Sunday, November 13, 2011 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.

Donald Clancy Schlecht was born December 18, 1926 in Kensal, N.D., the son of John and Mary Grace (Clancy) Schlecht. He was raised and attended school in Kensal, N.D. Don entered the U.S. Navy in World War II and served his county in Okinawa until the war ended, when he returned to Kensal. He married Phyllis Ione Florhaug of Kensal on August 21, 1946, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Wimbledon. They lived in Kensal from 1946-1951, owning and operating the Standard Station and Variety Store. They moved to Jamestown in 1951 where he worked for Max Whipkey, operating a mink ranch and tree farm. In Jamestown he built his own home which still stands today behind Wilhelm Auto Dealerships at the bottom of Mill Hill.

In 1956 they moved to Wimbledon where he managed the meat department for his brother Jack in the Red Owl Store, until he retired after 36 years in 1992. He was a member of St. Boniface Church, American Legion Post #236 and the Wimbledon Fire Department, where also served as Fire Chief.

He is survived by seven sons, Daniel (Marion), Parker, AZ., Pat (Cathy), Williams, AZ., Russel (Carol), Lincoln, ND., John (Diane), Waite Park, MN., Mark (Ameta), Jamestown, ND., Tim and Jaime (Rosie), Wimbledon; two daughters, Debra Oakley, Fairborn, OH and Kay (Rick) Albrecht, Wimbledon; daughter-in-law, Gloria Love-Schlecht; 19 grandchildren and 28+ great-grandchildren; a brother David (Jean) Glendale, AZ., two sisters-in-law, Mary Jean Wildermuth, Jamestown and Lois Florhaug, Mandan. ND.

He was preceded in death by Phyllis, his wife of 65 years, son Tom, his parents John and Mary Grace, brothers, Bernard (Barney), Eloy (Jack), James, Gary; sisters Loretta, Lucille and Mary (Molly).

Eucharist of Christian Burial : 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2011 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m.to 4:00p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service & Rosary: 7:00 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Wimbledon, ND.

Interment: St. Boniface Cemetery, Wimbledon, ND.
