Donald “Al” Bentz, Jamestown, N.D., age 95, passed away peacefully in his home on May 17th, 2024. Mr. Bentz was born on September 23rd, 1928, in Harvey, N.D.; the son of George and Milletta (Keller) Bentz. He grew up on the family farm near Clifton, N.D., in Pierce County. He married Joyce Eckart on November 3rd, 1950, in Harvey, North Dakota. They farmed on his parents' farm for 10 years, and after that, he worked a short time for an advertising company, representing radio and TV stations in several states. He then went to work in the advertising department at KSJB Radio in Jamestown, where he worked for 33 years until his retirement. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club for 48 years, and a proud member of the Church of the Nazarene in Jamestown. He enjoyed painting and playing Bridge.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce, and their two adopted children, Lori Stiefel of Jamestown and Jeff (Meryem) Bentz of Fargo; 1 granddaughter, Madeline Stiefel (Quinn Dixon) of Jamestown; 2 step-grandchildren, Scott Berge, his son Blake, and Nicolette Bresnahan (Patrick), and their two daughters, Banks and Indy, of Fargo, N.D.; 3 his sisters, Pearl Swang of Harvey, N.D., Violet Buxa (Calvin) of Anamoose, N.D., Elaine Baumgartner, of Fargo, N.D.; 70 foster children that they cared for over a 17 year period; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Milletta Bentz; his 2 sisters, Irene Hauser, and Lenora Hughes; his 3 brothers-in-law, Elmer Hauser, Herbert Swang, and Frank Baumgartner.
In lieu of flowers, the family ask that memorials be made to either the Jamestown Kiwanis Club and/or the Jamestown Regional Medical Center Home-Health and Hospice.
Visitation will be 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, May 23, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home, Jamestown, ND. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Friday, May 24, 2024 at First Church of the Nazarene, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Greg Allen officiating. Interment will be in Highland Home Cemetery.
