Donna A. Christensen, 79, Jamestown, North Dakota died Thursday, October 26, 2006 at Jamestown Hospital.
Donna Andrea Christensen was born on May 24, 1927 in Flaxton, North Dakota, the daughter of Iver A. and Myrtle A. (Boeson) Christensen. She was baptized at home on June 22, 1928. She was confirmed on June 1, 1941 in Borup, Minnesota at Winchester Lutheran Church. In 1942 her family moved to Fargo, ND where she graduated from Fargo High School in 1947. After high school she trained as a secretary and traveled by train to Cleveland, Ohio to work as a Automatic Operator for Western Union. She then returned to Fargo where she worked as a secretary for the Veterans Administration Hospital. It was there that she met Gordon L. Christensen, who was working at the hospital as a carpenter. They married on June 5, 1948 at Olivet Lutheran Church in Fargo. Donna and Gordon moved from Fargo to Tioga, ND where they started their family. They finally settled in Jamestown. Donna worked as a kindergarten music teacher at Trinity Lutheran Church, a job she loved dearly as it combined her love of music with her nurturing manner with children. She also worked as a bookkeeper at Hi-Acres Manor Nursing Home. When Gordon retired from teaching they become head residents at Watson Hall, Jamestown College for nine years.
Music was always a part of Donna's life. She loved to sing and play the piano. In high school she was always very active, singing in the choir; was a part of a singing trio; sang and played in different recitals; providing piano accompaniment whenever needed.
She was very active in Trinity Lutheran Church for many years, teaching Sunday School and singing in the church choir.
Donna was survived by one son, Gordon, Jr. (Crystal) Christensen, Yuma, AZ; two daughters, Candance (Daniel) Martian, Mandan, ND and Carol (Daniel) Boyt, Kent, WA; one daughter-in-law, Brenda Christensen, Jamestown; six grandsons; two granddaughters; one granddaughter-in-law; one grandson-in-law; three sisters, Betty (Robert) Koshnick, Gwen (Ralph) Peterson and Carol Stensgard and one brother, Claude Christensen, all of Fargo.
She was preceded in death by her husband; son, Bradley; parents; sister-in-law, Marilyn and one brother-in-law, Gordon Stensgard.
Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, October 30, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Jill Steichen officiating.
No visitation is scheduled.
Burial: 11:00 AM, Tuesday, October 31, 2006 at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, North Dakota.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown.
