Donna D Schlender

Donna D. Schlender, 85, Jamestown, ND, passed away Thursday, July 20, 2017 at Ave Maria Village surrounded by family and friends.

Donna was born June 6, 1933, in Jamestown, ND to George and Waunita (Madden) Mellum. She was the fourth child in a family of seven. Donna graduated from Jamestown High School. She attended the Sisters of St. Joseph School of Nursing and received her Registered Nursing Degree. Donna worked at Central Dakota as an Assistant Director of Nursing, retiring in April of 1999. She married Wilhelm (Bill) Schlender on July 27, 1957 and raised four children. They were married for 40 years until Bill’s passing 1997. She was later engaged to John Pierson, Rogers, MN and they spent many winters in Mesa, AZ. They were together 15 years until John’s passing in 2015.

Donna was an avid golfer, bowler, card player and enjoyed her special trips with her sisters and dear friends! She treasured her annual family vacations to the lakes. She was a longtime member of St. James Basilica and past member of St. John’s Circle.

Donna was a wonderful, fun-loving, devoted, caring, hard-working mother, grandma, Gigi and friend!

Donna will be missed by her children, Linda (Jim) Urbanik, Riverview, FL, Scott Schlender, Alpharetta, GA, David Schlender, Colorado Springs, CO, and Lori (Mark) Wiese, Humboldt, MN; stepchildren, Greg, Elizabeth, Marcy, Katy and Melissa; 8 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Delores (Paul) Orr, Marlys Mellum, Sharon (Ted) Johnson, brother-in-law Jerry Zaun; sister-in-law Leslie Flyr, many nieces, nephews and special friends.

She was preceded in death by Bill Schlender and John Pierson; sisters Shirley Zaun and Beulah Hoffart; brother Doug Mellum and parents.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at St. James Basilica, Jamestown.

Visitation: 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 at Eddy Funeral home.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials to be given to Ave Maria Village, Jamestown.
