Doris Martin

Doris Martin, 92, Jamestown, ND, formerly of Dickey, ND, died Tuesday, July 13, 2010 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown, ND.

Doris Evelyn Meiklejohn was born March 19, 1918 on the family farm in Dickey, ND, the daughter of Harry and Elsie (Maisel) Meiklejohn. She was raised and attended school in Dickey, graduating from Dickey High School in 1936. On June 11, 1938, she married Robert H. Martin and they settled on a farm near Dickey. They moved into Dickey where Doris owned and operated a grocery store and worked at the Dickey Post Office. In 1964, they built a home in Dickey. She later worked as a Stanley Products Dealer and at the North Dakota State Hospital in the accounts receivable department and then as a cashier at the bank in Dickey for 17 years. Doris retired at age 70.

Survivors include a daughter, Rosemary (Ronald) Shasky, Jamestown, ND; a daughter-in-law, Betty Lou Martin, Dickey, ND; 5 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; a sister, Harriett Kartes, Jamestown, ND and a brother, Gary (Ilana) Meikeljohn, Dickey, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a son, David.
