Dorothy A Carlblom

August 1, 1921 — July 24, 2016

Dorothy Annie (Adolf) Carlblom, 94, died on Sunday, July 24, 2016 at Eventide Jamestown.
Dorothy, the daughter of Chris and Esther (Vierkandt) Adolf, was born on August 1, 1921 at the family farm in Ransom County. She attended country school and started working as a hired girl to help support her family through the depression. Dorothy met her soul-mate, Ernest Carlblom who was teaching at the neighborhood country school, and they were married on October 11, 1942 in Fort Ransom, ND. Dorothy worked with Ernest farming near Fort Ransom where their four children were born. In 1964 they moved to Jamestown, ND where they lived the remainder of their lives spending many summers traveling around the U.S., but the highlight was a trip to Norway and Sweden. Ernest died September 12, 1994.
Dorothy was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was very active especially in the church women's group and the quilting group. She was very proud of the quilts they made to donate to charities. Dorothy also made many beautiful stitched and tied quilts and made many afghans as gifts for friends, grandchildren, and children. Dorothy had a real passion for flowers and was one of the founding and a long-time member of the Prairie Rose garden club in Jamestown. She was a driving force in the garden club's projects establishing flower gardens in a number of public locations in the city and hosting regional and state flower shows. She also expressed her artistic talents in creating flower arrangements and painting landscapes. Dorothy was a member of the Sons of Norway, The Retired Teachers Association, and The Stiklestad Cemetery Association at Fort Ransom.
Dorothy is survived by her son Dennis (Corlys) Carlblom, Pelican Rapids, MN; her son Darell (Julie) Carlblom, Byron, MN; her daughter Elizabeth (Ron) Rick, Jamestown, ND; and her daughter-in-law, JoAnne Carlblom, Moorhead, MN; her sister Christine Himebough, Lisbon, ND; her sister Esther Vogel, Fargo, ND and her sister-in-law Beverly Adolf, Fairmount, ND; 12 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, her son Ernest Dean, three brothers, four brothers-in-law, and four sisters-in-law.
