Dorothy Jean Halvorson

Dorothy Jean Halvorson, 82, Jamestown, ND, passed away, with family members by her side, on Monday, August 25, 2014, at Eventide, High Acres. Dorothy was born on February 27, 1932, in Janesville, WI, the daughter of Earl and Berenice (Davey) Rohde. Her family relocated to Devils Lake, ND, and she graduated from Devils Lake High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard Halvorson, on February 26, 1952, and they settled on a farm near Devils Lake. The family moved to Jamestown in 1960, where Dorothy raised her children with an extraordinary measure of love and kindness for which she will always be remembered and cherished. When her children were grown she became a real estate agent and worked in the family business. She later ran a home day care for many years, endearing herself to another generation of grateful children. She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was genuinely devoted to her family, her friends, and anyone in need of a hug or a kind word. She loved all kinds of music--from the Beatles to George Strait--and had a beautiful singing voice, which she was happy to share at formal and informal occasions. Dorothy is survived by three daughters: Shari (Ray) Carr, Lynn (Tom) Wilhelm, and Shannon (Casey) Henderson, all of Jamestown; two sons, Kelly Halvorson, Grand Forks, ND, and Scott Halvorson, New York, NY; seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; and a brother, Duane Rohde, Watertown, SD. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her parents, and two brothers, Jim and Harold Rohde.

Funeral Service: 2:00 PM, Friday, August 29, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown, ND with Pastor Shawn Bowman, officiating.

Visitation: 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 28 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Thursday, August 28 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, ND.
