Their first home was in Jamestown where they lived with Dennis's sister Sonia until they built a home on the family farm. In the year 2000 they moved into Montpelier. In July of 2011 she became a resident of Ave Maria.

She was very active with Montpelier Lutheran Church until the time of her stroke. She loved to sew with the quilting club at church and over the years made many school bags that were utilized to package school supplies that were sent overseas. She enjoyed sewing quilts many were taken to Red Willow Bible camp to be auctioned off. She also enjoyed presenting the bibles to the graduating kindergarten Sunday school class for many years. She loved gardening and canning all the vegetables she grew. She was well known for her homemade apple pies, which was also the family favorite. She helped on the farm by making meals, running after parts and helped move equipment between fields. She also helped during calving season by keeping records of the calves and bottle feeding when needed. She was always helping someone with something. She was never concerned with herself only others. She loved to travel whether it was to Oklahoma to help Dianne with the grandbabies or to Texas to see her brother and his family. Dorothy loved putting together family picnics and reunions when people would come to visit. Dorothy was the most kind, considerate, and caring person we have ever known. She always had a place in her heart for everyone - no exceptions. Dorothy had a strong faith in our Lord and Savior and she will be missed a lot. We know she is in a better place and will be our guardian angel until we see her again she will always be in our hearts.
