Dorothy I. Nelson

Dorothy Nelson, 88, of Edgeley, ND, died Saturday, April 30, 2011 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, ND.

Dorothy I. Goodrich was born September 20, 1922, in Malette, SD, the daughter of John and Ruth (Beaver) Goodrich. When she was young, Dorothy's family moved to Monango, ND where she graduated from high school. She attended Ellendale Normal to attain her teaching certificate, and taught school for a short time. Dorothy married Louis C. Nelson on March 8, 1943 in Ellendale, ND. They made their home on a farm in Willowbank Township, later moving to the family farm when his parents retired in 1948. They farmed there until retiring and moving to a country home on Highway 281 in 1979, where they planted many beautiful pine trees. They moved into Edgeley in 2005. Louis died on January 4, 2007.

Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Edgeley where she was active in the Women's Aid, served on various boards, and attended state assemblies. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. Duplicate Bridge was a hobby of both Dorothy and Louis. They played in many Regional and National tournaments in the United States and Canada, always as partners. They obtained Life Master, the highest honor to attain in bridge in St. Louis, MO in 1973. They were both certified Bridge Directors having passed the test in Pasadena, CA in 1977.

Dorothy is survived by three sons, Loren (LaVerne) Nelson, Edgeley, ND, Howard (Charlotte) Nelson, Carrington, ND, and Gene Nelson, Broomfield, CO; four grandchildren, Bryan Nelson, Dana (Brad) Parkhouse, Jody Nelson, and Kay (Gerard) Retzer; nine great-grandchildren, Breanna, Patrick, Kaylee, and Alexander Nelson, Prairie, Kodi, and Colton Retzer, Bennett and Rachel Parkhouse; and one brother, Clifford Goodrich, Edgeley, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three brothers; and four sisters.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m, Thursday, May 5, 2011 at First Presbyterian Church, Edgeley, ND.

Prayer Service: 7:00pm, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.

Visitation: 1:00pm-7:00pm, Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley.

Burial: Mt. Hope Cemetery, Edgeley.
