Dorothy Ness, 76, of Jamestown, ND, passed away from natural causes on Saturday, May 5, 2012 at her home.
Dorothy Esther Kocher, was born November 19, 1935 in Velva, ND, the daughter of Chester and Hazel (Marquardt) Kocher. She was raised in Velva where she graduated from Velva High School. On September 7, 1953, Dorothy married Leo Ness. They started their family and made their home in Velva. In 1965, the family moved to Jamestown, ND, where she worked as a homemaker and waitressed at the American Legion. She was blessed to be the mother to seven wonderful children. An avid seamstress, she enjoyed making various items for her family, including daughter?s wedding dresses and baby blankets for children and grandchildren. Dorothy?s passion for dogs led her to become a breeder of poodles and she also had a dog grooming business. In her later years, she found enjoyment from her paintings, gardening, and her grandchildren?s company. Her family relished her cooking and enjoyed drinking coffee together around her kitchen table.
Survivors include her children: Margo (Joel) Collins, Sidney, MT; Nancy (Bill) Fairchild, Westmoreland, KS; Leo J (Kari) Ness, Jamestown, ND; Rebecca (Kelly) Donegan, Jamestown, ND; Jacqueline (Steven Riley ? fiancé) Borg, St. Paul, MN; Andrew Ness, Jamestown, ND; daughter-in-law Trudi Ness, Minot, ND; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister Jeannie Harris, New Town, ND; and special friend Reuben Vossler.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; former husband Leo Ness; son Michael Ness; siblings Connie Tiegen, Carol Nelson, twin brother Dale Kocher; and granddaughter Kelly Fairchild.
