Dorothy L. Somsen, 93, passed away at Eventide Jamestown under the care of Hospice of Red River Valley February 19, 2024. She was born September 4, 1930 the daughter of Theodore and Mae (Quibell) in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada. Dorothy was raised on the Johnson farm homestead and educated there. She took great pride in her Canadian Citizenship.
Dorothy married Franklin Somsen October 10, 1953, in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada. They made their home in Courtenay, ND and farmed together until Franklins passing August 8 1965. Dorothy farmed on her own until 1972 when she rented her land out.
In 1977 she purchased the Grocery Store in Courtenay, ND and operated Dorothy’s Gift and Grocery until 1994.
She was a camp Hostess at Eggerts Landing Lake Ashtabula for many summers. Dorothy was a member of the Young at Heart Club, Senior Citizens Center and a long time Board Member of Courtenay Cemetery Association. She enjoyed fishing, gardening, crocheting, traveling and visiting with people. Dorothy moved to Rock of Ages at Jamestown ND in 2012
She is proceeded in death by her husband, parents, brothers Robert, Harold and sister Glennis.
Dorothy is survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Eddy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryce Tahran officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service. Interment will be in Courtenay Cemetery.
