Dorothy Widener, Jamestown, ND, passed away at Jamestown Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, at the age of 92.
Dorothy Nelson was born November 30, 1919 in Pettibone, ND, the daughter of Elmer and Ruby (Bellows) Nelson. She moved to Jamestown as a child, attended school in Jamestown, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1937. She attended Jamestown Dakota Business School, after which she worked at the Chamber of Commerce.
On April 5, 1939 Dorothy married Merle Widener. She was employed at First United Methodist Church, retiring in 1981.
Dorothy was a member of First United Methodist Church for over 50 years and Ashbury Circle. She was a past officer of PEO Chapter K. A favorite pastime of Dorothy's was playing bridge with friends. She was an avid quilter and knitter, making quilts and sweaters for all her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, Marlyce (Lewis) Miller, Bayfield, WI, Doug Widener, Jamestown and Debra (Louis) Bruce, Pearland, TX; 7 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; one grandson, Tad Widener; and one brother, Marvin Greenstein.
