Dorothy "Dotty" Ellingson

On January 9, 2022, Dorothy “Dotty” Ellingson, passed away at the age of 86 at the St. Rose Care Center in LaMoure, ND.

Dorothy Ellingson was born on December 18, 1935 to Clifford and Sylvia (Anderson) Paulson at the hospital in Mayville, ND. She was raised on a farm north of Finley, ND until the fall of 1942 when the family moved to the original farmstead of her grandpa Herman Paulson in Adrian, ND. She finished grade school in Adrian and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1953. Dotty attended Concordia College, graduated with a teaching degree in 1957 and taught Jr. High Science and Biology for two years in Minnesota. After teaching a couple years, Dotty married Raymond Ellingson on June 6, 1959, moved to their farm in Edgeley, ND and proceeded to raise a family of five boys. “Uffda” was all she would say.

Dotty, even though her degree was in teaching, was more well known for her accounting skills. Although she loved getting together for reunions with her Concordia friends, many years were spent in Edgeley doing church, tax, and sales barn bookwork as well as their own farm bookwork. One of Dotty’s favorite pastimes that many probably didn’t know about was bird watching. She loved watching the Blue Jays at the birdfeeder. There are some of her grandchildren that may even have a bird identification book they received as a gift from Grandma Dotty.

Dotty was preceded in death by her mother, Sylvia, father, Clifford, and brother, Donald, who passed at such a young age that she unfortunately did not get to know him.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond, Edgeley, ND, their five boys; Todd (Stacey), Edgeley, ND, Jon (Michelle), Fargo, ND, Mark, Smithton, PA, Curt (Brenda), Oakes, ND, Wyatt (Carrie), Edgeley, ND, 12 grandchildren; (Todd’s) Chanelle, Cody, Colter, Cauy, Kristin, (Jon’s) Dustin, Katie, Logan, (Curt’s) Miranda, Brooke, (Wyatt’s) Westen and Ethan, 11 great-grandchildren; Declan, Emerie, Rowen, Gatlin, McClain, Gwendelynn, Ashton, Evelyn, Jack, Cora, and Simon.

In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Edgeley.

Memorial Service: 2 PM, Friday, January 14, 2022 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Edgeley, ND.
