Douglas Mickelson, 92, Jamestown, North Dakota died at his home Wednesday, January 28, 2004. Doug was born April 29, 1911 in Jud, North Dakota the son of Morris and Hilda (Lee) Mickelson. He grew and attended school in Jud. He stayed in the the Jud area where he did mechanical work and farming. He also started Doug's Orchestra and played at many dances in the area. Doug married Bertha Draeger on June 1, 1934. They lived in Richardton, ND and briefly in Idaho where he continued mechanical repair work. In 1937 they moved to the junction of highways 281 and 46 where they owned and operated a repair shop and service station. In 1946 they moved to Jamestown and Douglas opened an Oldsmobile and Cadillac Dealership which he operated for about 17 years. He continued farming in the Montpelier area while living in Jamestown until he retired. During his retirement he continued to enjoy shop, mechanical hobbies, going to auctions and socializing with friends.
Doug is survived by his two sons, Rodney of Jamestown and Roger (Bev) of West Burlington, IA; a daughter, Gloria Mickelson-Maetzold, Jamestown; four sisters, Delores (Ivan) Carlson, Jamestown, Hazel (Al) Cavasher, Hemet, CA, Bernice (Glen) Spotts, West Plains, MO and Gladys Headland of Bismarck, ND; eight grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and three brothers; Jim, Johnny and Arnold.
Funeral Service: 11:00 AM, Monday, February 2, 2004 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Rev. Terry Anderson officiating.
Visitation: 1:00 to 9:00 PM, Sunday, February 1, 2004 at Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Jamestown, North Dakota.
