Robert Charles Wells was born December 7, 1971, in Rugby, ND, the son of Charles and Connie (Fjellanger) Wells. He attended elementary school in Steele, ND, before moving to Robinson in 1981. In 1988 and 1989 Bob was selected to compete in the International Science Fair. In 1988 Bob was chosen to participate in the ND HS Centennial Band, which toured the state and performed in the 1989 Tournament of Roses Parade. Bob graduated from Robinson High School in 1990, valedictorian of his class of five close friends.
Bob graduated Summa Cum Laude with Honors from Jamestown College in 1994 with a BA degree in Biology. He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH, in 1998. He completed his residency at the UND Family Practice Center in Bismarck, ND, and was honored as the William M Buckingham MD Outstanding Resident in 2001.
Dr. Wells began his very rewarding career as a Primary Care Physician in Jamestown at MeritCare, now Sanford Clinic, in 2001. He served as Chief of Staff and governing board member at the Jamestown Regional Medical Center (where he provided hospitalist, obstetric, and emergency room services) throughout the planning and building of the new hospital. He felt honored to serve the community of Jamestown and considered the medical staff to be his second family.
In 2013 Dr. Wells joined Mid Dakota Clinic in Bismarck as an Urgent Care Physician. He was pleased to serve the community of Bismarck and greatly appreciated everyone who was a part of the urgent care team. Throughout his career, Dr. Wells was a member of the ND Academy of Family Physicians. He served the NDAFP in many capacities, including as a member of the board, President (2012-2013), and ND Delegate to the AAFP Congress, which met annually at the AAFP National Convention. In November 2016, Dr. Wells was honored by the NDAFP with the Friend of Family Medicine Award.
Robert C Wells and Shirla J Reimer of Bowman, ND, were married on May 29, 1993. In 1994 they welcomed Christopher to their family. Erik joined them in 1998 and Ryan in 2003.
Bob enjoyed life! Highlights included trips to Israel, Europe, Alaska, Hawaii, and Aruba. Annually, he enjoyed ski trips to Big Sky, MT; deer hunting in the badlands and in McVille, ND; Vikings games; UND Hockey games, and camping at Lake Williams. He reveled in the time spent with his family and close friends, who shared his life and enveloped him in a circle of love in his last hour.
Bob had a smile that would light up a room and warm your heart and he wasn't afraid to use it! His smile, charm, and respect for all endeared him to everyone - young and old.
Bob was preceded in death by grandparents Robert V Wells and LeRoy & Adeline Fjellanger, father-in-law Duane C Reimer, and sister-in-law Debbie Wacker. He is survived by his wife Shirla, sons Christopher, Erik, and Ryan, parents Charles and Connie Wells, grandmother Enid J.
