Drexel Dale Young, known to many as Drex, passed away on April 3, 2024, in Jamestown, North Dakota, at the age of 75. He was born on December 3, 1948, in Los Angeles, California. Drex was a talented artist, specializing in scrimshaw, with his works displayed in books, private collections, and at the North Dakota Museum. He also had a passion for Old Western movies, Native American art, and history.

In his career, Drex worked in Quality Control at Cavindish and Western Gear for many years before retiring. Apart from his professional life, he was a craftsman with primitive arms and knives, and an artist through charcoal and pencil drawings. His love for the outdoors was evident in his artwork, reflecting his interests in Native American life, hunting, fishing, canoeing, and wildlife.

Drex was deeply loved by his family and is survived by his nephew Gregg (Kristina) Engel, Hamilton, IL, niece Kristy Engel, Duluth, GA,  niece Cathy (Brent) Ferrell, Columbia, MO; three brothers-in-law, Stan (Patty) Cebula, Jamestown, ND, Steve (Polly) Cebula, Rugby, ND, Sam (Nancy) Cebula, Kenosha, WI; three sisters-in-law, Sharon (Richie) Ackerman, Wimbledon, ND, Susan (Rick) Gums, Jamestown, ND, Stacy Kracht (Ken Mull) Gwinner, ND, and several other nieces and nephews from his extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Helen Young, his sister Nancy Engel, and his wife, Sandy Young, whom he married on June 10, 1989.

Family will be receiving friends to honor Drex's life on Sunday, April 14, 2024, from 3PM-5PM at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, ND. A graveside committal service will be held in July 2024, with further details to follow. Contributions in memory of Drexel Young can be made to the Jamestown Arts Center or the James River Humane Society.
