Duane Barth

October 6, 1954 — December 26, 2019

Duane was born October 06, 1954, in Dickinson, the son of Joseph and Jean (Travis) Barth. He grew up in Hebron, ND, and graduated from Hebron High School. Duane attended the North Dakota State College of Science, in Wahpeton, ND. He graduated with an Associates’ Degree in Graphic Arts/Printing in 1974. Duane moved to Lemmon, SD, to work as a pressman.
Duane married the love of his life, Shelley C. Morin, in September of 1974. Shelley joined him in Lemmon in September of 1974. Duane moved to Bismarck in 1975 to take a job at Quality Printing, and later at The Bismarck Tribune, both as a pressman. Duane had his first son in 1984, Duane Wm. 2nd, and his second son in 1986, Justin John. Duane worked at Bismarck Tire and Retread for three years from 1983 to 1986 before he and his family moved to Jamestown, ND, in 1986 for Duane to take over as the General Manager of Jamestown Tire and Retread. In 1996, Duane fulfilled a life-long dream of owning his own business when he bought The Rental Store/Showplace Video in Jamestown. Duane continued to own and expand the business until he retired in 2009 due to health issues. He sold the business in 2015.
Duane was a hard worker and excellent businessman. He was an avid hunter when he was younger, sharing many years of memories with both his sons when they were both old enough to go hunting with him. Duane's true passion was scuba diving. He discovered this when he was on vacation with his wife, Shelley, in Hawaii. Duane has traveled all over scuba diving. Duane was active in both the local Cub Scout and Boy Scout troops while his sons were growing up. He believed both organizations were very important to be a part of, and he continued to support them for many years after his sons were no longer a part of them.
Duane and Shelley sent both their boys to St. John's Academy. They felt that the best education they could give their sons was one that included their faith. Duane continued to volunteer and support St. John's Academy up until the day he passed away.
Duane was a member of the Knights of Columbus, currently serving as the Grand Knight; he truly believed in the work they performed. Duane was also a member of the Elks, Jaycees, United Commercial Travelers, and was active in his church. In his last years, Duane managed his rental properties, visited his grandchildren, and watched the Green Bay Packers.
Duane is preceded in death by his brother, Michael; his father-in-law, Neil Morin, and mother-in-law, Lillian (Wiedrich) Morin.
Duane is survived by his wife, Shelley C.Barth; sons, Duane Wm. 2nd, Justin (Carissa); four grandchildren, Jamison, Christian, Graysen, and Seraphina; parents, Joseph "Fred" and Jean Barth; 2 brothers, David (Liz) Barth, Raymond (Tami) Barth; 3 sisters, Elaine (Dirk) Fischer, Mary Ann (Dan) Swigost, and Yvonne (James) Runyan; and numerous nieces and nephews.
