Duane Trautman

Duane D. Trautman, 80, Medina, ND passed away January 3, 2019 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck. Duane was born February 21, 1938 to Rudolph and Edna (Bader) Trautman. He was raised on his father’s farm 6 miles southeast of Medina. In 1943, his family moved to a farm one mile south of Medina. He received his education at Medina High School where he was active in FFA and was the first recipient of the Dekalb Agricultural Accomplishment Award, and graduated in 1956. Following graduation, he farmed with his dad and did some trucking jobs hauling cattle, coal, lumber, etc. He also took a farmers’ short course at NDSU where he learned many trades, such as electrical, welding and carpentry, which helped him in building many buildings on their farm. In 1959, he joined the National Guard where he was a member until 1965.

He married Darlene Miller on September 24, 1961 and they purchased their farm and ranch south of Medina, formerly the Gust Martel farm. He farmed with his dad until buying the farm from his parents.

Duane was a member of UCC church and served on their board, Medina Elevator board, American Legion member, ND Stockman’s Association member, committees for Medina Centennial and Diamond Jubilee, and was Fall Festival parade chairman for many years made sure the parade got started on time.

Duane enjoyed working with his cattle, fishing, hunting, traveling, playing cards, reading, and attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Darlene, children Bruce (Renae) Trautman, Huron, SD, Janelle (Bob) Moser, Medina, ND and Julia (Corey) Henkel, Bayard, NE; grandchildren Joleesa Moser (fiancé Adam Ruud), Nicholas (Madi) Moser and Noelle Moser (Gatlyn Buskness); Grace, Claire, Ruth and Joy Trautman; Lorren and Josh Henkel; brothers William (Betty), Valley City and Norman, Laurel, MT; sister MoDean (Jim) McCullough, Palm Desert, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Ronald.

Visitation will be at the Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown on Sunday, January 6 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. Funeral service will be held at the Zion United Church of Christ in Medina at 10:30 AM, Monday, January 7. Burial will be in Medina Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the charity of choice.
