Earl S. Johnson, 82, Jamestown, North Dakota, formerly of Ypsilanti, ND, died Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at Jamestown Hospital.
Earl was born July 21, 1925 at Marion, North Dakota, to Elliot and Sena (Lura) Johnson. He received his education at the Greenland Consolidated School near Marion. He moved with his parents to a farm near Ypsilanti in 1938 and farmed with his father until 1945 when he began working as a section laborer in Ypsilanti. In 1954 he transferred to the train service as a brakeman with the Northern Pacific Railroad and later with the Burlington Northern until his retirement in 1986. Earl married Blanche Heffernan in Jamestown on November 24, 1945. They lived in Ypsilanti until 1989 when they sold their home and moved into Jamestown. Following retirement he served as a bailiff with Stutsman County District Court for 16 years.
Earl enjoyed spending time with his friends and family and playing pinochle and dominoes. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown.
Earl is survived by his wife, Blanche, of Jamestown; one son, Larry (Dee) Johnson, Moorhead, MN; one special grandson, Jeff and his wife, Karla, Fargo, ND; three sisters, Doris Orr, Jamestown, Velma Freutel, Grand Forks, ND and Shirley Johnson, Otsego, MN; one brother, Lester Johnson, Arthur, ND and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother and five sisters.
Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Saturday, August 4, 2007 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown with Pastor John Syvertson officiating.
No visitation is scheduled.
Burial: James Valley Cemetery, Ypsilanti, North Dakota
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Immanuel Lutheran Church, Jamestown or the Chaplaincy service at the Anne Carlsen Center for Children, Jamestown, or the donor's choice.
