Earl L Redmann

May 6, 1928 — October 10, 2023

Earl Redmann, 95, of Jamestown, ND, passed from life to life eternal on October 10, 2023.  In his final days, Earl was surrounded by his two sisters, children, and the caring staff at Eventide Nursing Home.

Earl was born on May 6, 1928, near Sydney, ND, and was the second of five children born to Emanuel and Esther (Schulz) Redmann.  Sometime later the family moved to a farm near Millarton, ND, where Earl worked hard with his father on the family’s cattle and grain farm while attending school through the eighth grade.  Dad often joked that he only went through the eighth grade to give the teachers time to catch up.

Throughout his teens and early twenties, Earl was very involved with the Sydney and Stutsman County 4-H Clubs where he was part of a team that went all the way to Chicago, competing at the 1948 International Livestock Show.  The team won first place in junior livestock judging and Earl won the all-around honors.

On October 8, 1948, Earl married Valeria Vandeberghe and raised eleven children together.  In 1962 they moved their growing family into their newly built home northwest of Millarton.   Although there was separation along the way, God gave Mom and Dad a tender time of heart-filled reconciliation prior to Valeria’s passing in 2018.

Even though farming was Earl’s primary interest, he was also involved in securing oil leases in western North Dakota and later oversaw the drilling of two oil wells.  “What is that boy doing now!” a comment sister Joan remembers her mother making when visiting one of the drilling sites.  Earl retired from farming in 1982.  In the early 90’s he and his companion Edna Koenig moved to Las Vegas enjoying the warmer weather, playing cards, bingo, landscape gardening, an abundance of laughter, and an occasional game of chance.  In 2005 they returned to Jamestown where Edna passed in 2011.  In his twilight years, Earl had an abiding friendship with Lillian Gunsch.  Dad was blessed with many friends at morning coffee and we wish to extend a special thanks to those who visited him in the nursing home!

Earl is survived by ten children:  David (Annette) Redmann of Millarton, ND, Deborah (Terry) Johnson of Windsor, ND, Diana (Jan) Michener of Detroit Lakes, MN, Deone (Francis) Bergman of Bonney Lake, WA, Darcy (Doug) Walters of Farmington, NM, Koren (Steve) Lewis of Wakefield, KS, Steven (Kelly) Redmann of Boyceville, WI, Connie (Larry) Carpenter of Ashburn, VA, Kristen (Randy) Weber of Wheatland, ND, and Sarah Kinney of Des Moines, IA;  twenty-nine grandchildren and fifty-three great-grandchildren; two sisters: Gertrude (Myron/Bug) Pryor of Jamestown, ND, and Joan Redmann of Fargo, ND;  one sister-in-law, Elaine Redmann of Minneapolis, MN;  and several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents Emanuel and Esther Redmann; sister, Lorraine Christensen, and brother, Robert Redmann; brother-in-law, Robert (Bob) Christensen; his children’s mother, Valeria; son, Daniel Redmann; grandson, Anthony Lewis, and great-granddaughter, Willow Droogsma.
