Edith Whipple, 74, Marion, ND, died Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at St. Rose Care Center, LaMoure, ND.

Edith Pauline Hamm was born July 15, 1934 on the family farm at Alleghany County, North Carolina, the daughter of Harry Franklin and Bessie Etheline (Rash) Hamm. She moved with her family to Aberdeen, Maryland where she attended school. After her schooling she worked as a babysitter and at a shoe factory. On October 2, 1959, she married Wallace Whipple at Grace United Methodist Church in Aberdeen, Maryland. They lived in Hawaii, Australia and Alaska while Wallace served in the Navy. After his discharge from the Navy in 1977, they moved to Marion, ND.

Edith was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Marion, ND and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family; flowers; garden - especially tomato plants; watching owls, rabbits, birds and deer; hobbies; making things with paper maché; painting pictures with watercolors; sewing and making booties for young children.

Survivors include her husband; 2 children: Patricia Whipple, Carrington, ND; Steven (Kimberly) Whipple, Bismarck, ND; 2 grandchildren: Mariah and Michaela; 4 brothers: James (Marie) Hamm, Naples, Florida; Eugene (Ann) Hamm, Aberdeen, MD; Charles (Kathy) Hamm, Concord, VA; Paul (Gladys) Hamm, Aberdeen, MD and 2 sisters: Marion Leitheiser, Parkton, MD and Stella (James) Ward, Aberdeen, VA.

She was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Donald and 3 sisters, Nanalee, Mary Ruth and Margareet.

Funeral - 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Grace United Methodist Church, Marion, ND with Pastor Rodney Ulmer officiating.

Prayer Service - 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND

Visitation - 10:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 23, 2009 at Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown, ND and 1 hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.

Interment - Lakeview Cemetery, Marion, ND
