Edmund Anselm Fettig, 74, died Thursday, March 20, 2003 at Central Dakota Village, Jamestown, North Dakota. Ed was born on April 19, 1928 in Selz, ND, the son of Emmanuel & Rose (Kraft) Fettig. He grew up in Selz and attended country school there. Ed married Elizabeth Marion Eisenzimmer on November 6, 1947 in Balta, ND. They were married for 55 years. They lived for a short time in Harvey, ND then moved to Detroit, MI where Ed worked for about a year at a refrigerator factory. They moved to Elmer, ND and Ed worked for the railroad. After approximately two years they moved to Fargo and Ed was employed by the Fargo Street Department for 12 years. Ed then became an entrepreneur by starting his own business. He successfully ran ""Fettig's Janitor Service"" for 11 years in Fargo. His health forced him to pursue another business, so he started a Janitorial Chemical Sales business and small grocery store in Fargo. Ed's next business opportunity came when they moved to Lake Ida and opened a gas station and marine shop. Three years saw them moving to Jamestown where Ed was able to turn his love of woodworking into a successful business called ""The Country Shop."" Ed retired in 1991 after 27 years of operating his buiness.
Ed was a member of the Basilica of St. James Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both of Jamestown.
Ed loved woodworking, card games, watching baseball, fishing, camping, horseshoes, bean bag game, bowling and a house full of laughter. He also enjoyed building his woodwork projects for his children and grandchildren. He taught his grandchildren how to play checkers and Rummy by Grandpa Ed's rules. His favorite pasttime was card games; Pinochle, Whist, Left-Right and Gin Rummy just to name a few. In fact, he played cards up to his last day on earth.
Ed & Betty's family made a good team. Dad was the all time pitcher and mom was the all time catcher when a softball game took place. Dad's decided to take a rest on the bench and watch his #1 team from above.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, Jamestown, seven children, Judy (Ken) Anderson, Ypsilanti, ND; Sandie (Steve) Strandlien, Pelican Rapids, MN; Robert (Vicky), Fargo, ND; Kathy (Lloyd) Altringer, Lakeside, CA; Darleen (Wayne) Hovland, Pelican Rapids, MN; Marcie (Duane) Duff, Jamestown and James (Sonja), Jamestown, 18 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 6 brothers, Eddy, Herb (Phyllis), Joe, Manny (Bernice), David and John and 5 sisters, Alice (Daniel) Volk, Florence (Tony) Selensky, Mary (John) Burgard, Regina (Bill) Fetzer and Julie (Doug) Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Adam, Louie, and infant Joseph, 2 sisters in infancy, Rosena & Maria, daugher Maria in infancy, grandson Brad and granddaugher Gena.
Funeral Mass: 2:00 PM, Monday, March 24, 2003, Basilica of St. James, Jamestown with Father Jim Tiu officiating.
Prayer Vigil: 8:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2003, at the Basilica of St. James with Father John Fisher Kizito.
Visitation: 1:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, March 23, 2003, Eddy Funeral Home.
Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
