Edna Bender

Edna Bender, 78, Jamestown, N.D. died August 21, 2002 at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

Edna Lachenmeier was born April 6, 1924 on a farm in Cokato Township 14 miles east of Napoleon, N.D., the daughter of August and Christina (Becker) Lachenmeier. She grew into womanhood and helped with the cooking, cleaning, and washing clothes after her mother was ill and did so for her brothers and sisters after her mother passed away in 1935.

Edna married Alvin Bender on February 28, 1943. She went with her husband after he entered the service, he was stationed in Maryland and Virginia. After the service, they returned to the Bender home place near Streeter, N.D., where they farmed until their retirement in 1966. They moved to Jamestown, N.D. where she was employed at various jobs.

Edna was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown. She enjoyed her flowers, reading cook books and visiting with her family and friends.

Edna is survived by two daughters, Diane (Dennis) Morlock, of Streeter, N.D.; Darlene (Leon) Dewald, of Jamestown, N.D.; three grandchildren, Dallas Morlock, of Fargo, N.D.; Darnelle (Brian) Bakke, of Tower City, N.D.; Donny Morlock, of Valley City, N.D.; one sister, Ella (Al) Guthmiller, of Jamestown, N.D.; three brothers, Johnny (Edna) Lachenmeier, of Cleveland, N.D.; Art (Denelda) Lachenmeier, of Tappen, N.D.; August (Lorraine) Lachenmeier, of Hardin, MT; one sister-in-law, Helen Lachenmeier, of Napoleon, N.D.; one brother-in-law, Christ Schatz, of Jamestown, N.D.; three half brothers, Herbert, Charles, Gerald; five half sisters, Leona, Marjorie, Ruby, Kathy and Caroline. She was preceded in death by her parents, stepmother (Alma), three brothers, (Albert, Gideon, Willie), four sisters, Christina, Amelia, Lillian, and Helen, one half sister (Lucille), three half brothers (Arnold James, Gary, and Walter in infancy).

Funeral Service: 2:00 P.M. - Saturday, August 24, 2002 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Jamestown, N.D., with Rev. Terri Akkerman officiating.

Prayer Service: 7:00 P.M. - Friday, August 23, 2002 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown, N.D.

Visitation: Friday, August 23, 2002 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. at Eddy Funeral Home in Jamestown, N.D.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery - Jamestown, N.D.
