Edna Carter

Edna Carter, 83, Woodworth, North Dakota, slipped away from us in the early morning of Monday, November 14, 2005 at MedCenter One in Bismarck, ND after a short battle with cancer.

Edna Inez Deede was born to John Deede and Magdalena Gehring Deede on August 8, 1922 in Paris Township, Stutsman County, North Dakota. She attended Woodworth school and on September 6, 1940 she and Eugene Carter were united in marriage. They farmed for 32 years. During that time Edna was also a cook at the Woodworth school. In 1972 the farm was sold and Edna purchased the Woodworth café where many people enjoyed her baked goods and home style cooking. The café was sold and Edna then had time to help work at forming the senior citizens group. She and Eugene worked tirelessly for the group until illness forced her to resign in October of this year. She also worked many years for the café while it was run by the Woodworth community.

Edna enjoyed cooking, quilting and playing pinochle and bingo. She was a member of the Woodworth ELCA Church and the American Legion Auxilary.

Edna is survived by her husband of 65 years, Eugene of Woodworth; a son & daughter-in-law, Dennis & Mary Carter, Carrington, ND; daughter-in-law, Irene Carter, Bismarck, ND; six grandchildren, Darren, Cory (Michelle), Carrie (Andrew) McKnight, Arlynn (Jen), Kelly and Donelle; great-grandchildren, Cameron and Keira McKnight, who was born as Edna died; five sisters-in-law, Marian (William) Holmes, Shirley Zimmerman, Ferne Chapman, Gladyce Erling, Yvonne LaPorte; brother-in-law, Winfred Carter and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Willard Carter, five brothers, Albert, Raymond, Harold, Lawrence and George and two sisters, Marnie and Luella.

Memorial Service: 11:00 AM, Friday, November 18, 2005 at the Woodworth ELCA Church with Deaconess Candyce Wick officiating.

No visitation is scheduled.
