Edward Gruebele

Edward Gruebele, 79, Jamestown, North Dakota, died Tuesday, July 1, 2003 in his home.

Edward was born November 18, 1923 near Pettibone, North Dakota, the son of John and Margaret (Guthmiller) Gruebele. He attended school in the Pettibone area. Edward joined the U.S. Army in 1944 serving as a cook in the Phillipines. He was discharged on November 28, 1946 from Ft. Lewis, Washington. He married Amelia Remmick on November 2, 1946 at the Petersville church, north of Pettibone. They farmed from 1946 to 1965 in the Lake Williams, Courtenay and Wimbledon areas. They moved to Wimbledon in 1966 where Edward worked for Jack's Red Owl in the meat department. He then worked for the Gackle Packing Company from 1968 to 1973. In 1973 they moved to Jamestown where he worked for the North Dakota State Hospital as the Meat Supervisor until his retirement in 1979.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Jamestown the VFW and the American Legion.

Edward enjoyed gardening, having a weedless lawn, playing pinochle, cooking, baking and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edward is survived by his wife, Amelia, two daughters, Carol (Lowell) Jordahl, Fargo; Colleen (Tom) Musgrave, Valley City, three sons, Dallas (Linda) Gruebele, Valley City; Larry (Kathy) Gruebele, Jamestown and Cal (Gayle) Gruebele, Breckenridge, MN, 12 grandchildren; Trina, Jake, Tom, Jr., Dave, Dan, Jason, Chris, Cliff, Donovan, Tara, Austin and Tanner, and 2 great-grandchildren; Autumn and Mattea.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, Shawn and Jesse Gruebele, one brother, Ludwig and one sister, Deloris.

Funeral Service: 10:00 AM, Monday, July 7, 2003 at St. John's Lutheran Church with Rev. Dennis Ellingsen officiating.

Visitation: 2:00 to 9:00 PM, Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Home.

Prayer Service: 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 6, 2003 at Eddy Funeral Chapel.

Burial: Highland Home Cemetery, Jamestown, North Dakota.
